Discover Southwest Olympia | The Walking Guide of SW Olympia, WA

One of the fun things about Olympia is discovering hidden gems throughout the town. Whether you find a secret stairwell to get in a great workout or discover a new vantage point to take in the water and mountain views, you’ll have lots of fun exploring Olympia. If you are here for a while, you’ll start to embrace Olympia’s humor and quirkiness.

The neighbors who live in the south part of West Olympia came together and created a walker’s guide to the neighborhood, pointing out some of these hidden gems or as they call them, little destinations. You can download this map here.

This is to encourage everyone to get out and about, and maybe take different walking routes and take notice of the little things in this neighborhood. The map also offers a history lesson about the area and the notable spots.

I admit I didn’t get too far in my walk today. Partly because it is January, it is still winter, and it is still way too cold for me, and then I got sidetracked and ended up at Phoebe’s Pastry Café on Division. I took home two slices of cake and also picked up a chicken pot pie for dinner. I LOVE Phoebe’s Café and there are not too many dining options that I would give 5 stars to, but this is one of the eateries at the top of my list.

But getting back to the walk….there are several parks to enjoy, walking paths through the trees, and sidewalks throughout the neighborhood. This is the kind of neighborhood that makes me wish I had a dog to take for a walk!

Here’s my very short video of my walk through the neighborhood.

Southwest Olympia Real Estate

There is a lot of like about this part of West Olympia. First, the sidewalks and the walkability around the neighborhood and walkability to downtown Olympia, the waterfront, the mall, and of course, close to restaurants, shops, and schools.

The housing in this neighborhood is varied but at its core is made up of one-level, single-family homes built in the 1940s and 1950s and around 1,000 to 1,500 square feet. There are many other housing options in this neighborhood and you’ll find new construction, condos, and apartments of all sizes.

In the last six months, there were only 16 home sales that ranged in price from $362,500 to $697,000. For homes currently available for sale, click here.
