Campus Highlands in Lacey WA – a neighborhood tour

Where is Campus Highlands?

The Campus Highlands neighborhood is located in Hawks Prairie, North Lacey near I-5 Exit 111. Commuters love this location as they are just minutes from the freeway, close to  the Nisqually National Wildlife preserve and Tolmie State Park with beach access.

Campus Highlands is in the Lacey city limits. The city of Lacey has a population of over 52,000 residents.

What kind of homes can I find in Campus Highlands?

Much of the recent home-building in Campus Highlands is from the local builder, Rob Rice Homes. Most of these homes back the Woodlands Golf Course. Because the lot sizes are generous for new construction standards, this area offers many rambler (single level homes), two-story homes, and two-story homes with main floor masters.

Why do people like Campus Highlands?

Commute – commuters like this location as it is just minutes from I-5. Getting north to Joint-Base Lewis McChord, Tacoma or Seattle or going south to Centralia and Portland is less than a ten-minute drive to I-5 Exit 111. This exit also has been upgraded to a new diamond exit, making it more efficient to get through the area.

Shopping – just down the street, Campus Highlanders will find Best Buy, Costco, Home Depot and Ulta Beauty.

Restaurants – there are lots to choose from when it comes to dining out here in Hawks Prairie. One of my favorite eateries is the Curry House. They serve authentic Indian cuisine and are very friendly. I highly recommend them!

Outdoors – with sidewalks throughout the neighborhoods, getting out is very easy. If you’d like to explore more trees and less concrete, you’ll really enjoy the William Ives Trail. This is a very well-maintained 1.5 mile trail between Campus Highlands and Campus Green. Check out my video to see this trail.

Nearby Attractions – One of my favorite destinations in the county is the Nisqually Wildlife Refuge. They have miles of gravel and boardwalk trails through the forest and the water where you can see many different types of woodland birds, eagles, hawks, waterfowl like the Great Blue Heron, and once in a while you’ll see harbor seals.

Another outdoor attraction I like is Tolmie State Park. The last time I was there, the beach was filled with sand-dollars! It’s a small beach but when you live close by, you can visit anytime in off-peak hours.

Golf – there are two golf courses but Campus Highlands is woven between the Woodlands Golf Course. As its name implies, the course is wooded with old-growth forest, ponds and wetlands. The other course is a links course in the adjacent Jubilee neighborhood, which is a 55+ community.

Off-Leash Dog Park at the dump! This cracks me up but there is this wonderful off-leash dog park at the dump! And also at the dump are these beautiful gardens. I was so surprised to see the gardens and this nice little walkabout – and I even found a Little Library! Who knew you could have so much fun and so much to do at the dump!
