Best Things To Do This Spring 2022 in Olympia WA

Olympia in the springtime is a wonderful time of the year as we start to get out of the gloomy grey days of winter and start seeing sunnier days. And now that we are getting out of COVID restrictions, there is more to celebrate this spring. Here are my top things to do this spring 2022 in and around the Olympia area.

Egg My House on April 16th

If you’d like to egg someone’s house, the American Cancer Society Relay for Life Team is egging people’s homes with candy-filled eggs. This is a fundraiser where you can sign up to egg someone’s house the day before Easter. Order by April 8th.

“What Makes a House a Home?” Scholarship Contest April 11th – May 1st.

My firm, Coldwell Banker Evergreen Olympic Realty started this annual scholarship contest in 2011 and every year, it has grown bigger and better. High school-aged students can submit their essays on the topic of what makes a house a home and will have the chance to win up to $1,000 towards their college expenses.

Downtown Olympia Clean Up April 16

The Olympia Downtown Alliance is hosting a cleanup on Saturday, April 16th from 9 AM To 11 AM. You can volunteer to help with landscaping and streetscape maintenance. Be sure to sign up by April 13th.

Tumwater Parks and Recreation’s 25th Annual Easter Egg Dash April 16

Tumwater Parks and Recreation’s 25th Annual Easter Egg Dash is a free event starting at 11 AM at 700 Israel Road SW in Tumwater. There will be over 20,000 eggs for kids up to 11 years old to find! The Easter Bunny will also make an appearance.

Visit a Garden Center

I love visiting the local nurseries to not only get inspired for my own yard but to see the wonderful displays. Some of my favorite nurseries to visit for inspiration are:

  • Bark & Garden Center in West Olympia near the mall. I love this place! They have a large assortment of indoor and outdoor plants and all the things you need to be a master gardener.
  • The Barn Nursery south of Tumwater on Old Highway 99. They have a great gift shop to check out, too.
  • Lael’s Moon Garden Nursery in Rochester. If you are looking for unique or hard-to-find trees, plants or shrubs, this is your place. They have a wonderful display garden to walk through, too.

Cherry Blossoms at the Capitol Campus

The start of spring is truly marked by the blossoming of the cherry trees on the Capitol Campus! Be sure to take a walk through the campus under the flowing boughs.

Farmer’s Market – the 4-day season starts April 1

The Market will return to its spring schedule starting on April 1st and will be open Thursdays through Sundays from 10 AM to 3 PM. You can also catch a live band on the main stage Thursdays through Sundays from 11 AM to 2 PM.

Mima Mounds Natural Area Preserve

The Mima Mounds is another one of my favorite spots to walk around and explore and wonder how these mounds were formed. This is good to visit any time of the year but I love going in the spring to see the wildflowers starting to bloom over the prairie land. The Mima Mounds made my list of weird things about Olympia.
