Last week, I attended the GenBlue Coldwell Banker Conference in Seattle at the Washington Convention Center with about 300 of my Coldwell Banker colleagues from around the Pacific Northwest.
I was honored to be invited to be a part of the guest panel of Matthew Ferrara’s “Modern Marketing” presentation. However this meant being up on stage, having a microphone, and answering questions off the cuff without much preparation while trying to maintain some composure!
As Realtors, we usually don’t have the opportunity for public speaking events.
We are more accustomed to working with people in one-on-one situations. If you have the opportunity to speak to a group, take it. Don’t let the fear of public speaking stop you.
I am glad that a few years ago, I was a member of my local Toastmasters club. Not only did learning the techniques for public speaking in Toastmasters help me for this event, but being a member has tremendously helped me with my communication with my clients. If you choose to do some self-improvement this year, I would recommend checking out your local Toastmasters club. Besides, you never know when you might be asked to speak in front of a large group!
Overall, I think our panel was a great success.
Sam DeBord spoke about blogging and driving SEO to his sites; Kim Colaprete was the social media guru and discussed how she uses Twitter and Facebook, and also how she incorporates her blog and video; Jen Harper shared her insights about how she built her business by experimenting with different online services to her clients and how she positioned herself with her sellers to create a buzz for her listings. I had the honor of speaking about how video, especially my agent introductory video, has garnered new business for me and has helped build by business from scratch.
Looking forward to next year’s Coldwell Banker GenBlue!
