In Olympia WA, the local Realtor association is hoping to make Realtor Bell Ringer Day for the Salvation Army an annual event. Friday, December 7th, 2012 was Realtor Bell Ringer Day, where Olympia Realtors volunteered their time to encourage donations at the Red Kettles around town. Many other local organizations in Olympia such as the Rotary clubs also banded together to volunteer and organize their own bell ringing days.
My Coldwell Banker office took over the Tumwater Safeway’s Red Kettle for the day. My colleague Stuart Chisholm and I volunteered for the afternoon shift and rang the bell, handed out candy canes and drew in many donations.
I have to admit I was happily surprised by the number of people that donated. I would guess at least 1 out of 3 people who walked by us gave a cash donation. Olympians are very generous folks and this is a community that works together to help out their neighbors. What is even better is in our community, the Salvation Army directs 84 cents out of every dollar collected to stay in our community to help those in need.
This holiday season, I encourage you to help those in need by dropping your extra change into one of these Red Kettles for the Salvation Army.
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas!
